People are coping with the coronavirus pandemic by upending their lives and attempting to virtually re-create what they lost. Video chat has become the go-to substitute for many people’s discarded social lives, the place where they can see the most of the people they can no longer be with. Zoom, FaceTime, and Google Hangouts are easy to use. But they have a way of making everything feel like a meeting.

Employees who differ from most of their colleagues often hide important parts of themselves at work for fear of negative consequences. This makes it difficult to know how these employees feel and what they want, which makes them vulnerable to leaving their organizations. The key to inclusion is understanding who your employees really are.

When people navigate big changes, one thing that can help is what developmental psychologists call “transitional objects.” ( physical item or something more abstract like a routine, habit) — In order for leaders to identify which transitional objects might be most helpful to employees, they should consider three attributes of how people process change: choice, a connection to a purpose, and using something new as a bridge toward where you’re headed.

If you're a heavy drinker, your body may rebel at first if you cut off all alcohol. You could break out in cold sweats or have a racing pulse, nausea, vomiting, shaky hands, and intense anxiety. Some people even have seizures or see things that aren't there (hallucinations). For some people, day 4 is just the beginning of their withdrawal nightmare.
